Parents Information

It is important that you do not buy your ice skates too big - especially figure skates, where you need to have absolute control over the blade to make turns, spins and jumps. The ice skates must have a firm fit without being too tight. If the blade is riveted, make sure it is straight and centred. A leather boot is preferable to vinyl, and the boot does not have any wrinkles.
Figure Skaters should have their skates sharpened every 10 hours, and Senior Skaters could be every 5 to 8 hours. Toe picks never taken off, and heel never rounded! (All figure skates should be sharpened by someone that specializes in figure skates!)
-
Remember to air out your boots after use. It is important to always wear protective guards when walking off-ice. After using your skates, make sure to dry the blades and sole plate completely with a cloth. Do not leave the hard guards on your skates. Before removing your skates, make sure to unlace them sufficiently to prevent the back of the boot from breaking down or ripping.
-
We encourage the STAR to wear figure skating apparel, including dresses, jackets, leggings, and skating tights.
While wearing your hair down may look pretty, it is dangerous and unsafe! Always wear your hair up and pulled back!
-
Get up quickly after falling down.
