Skate
Canada, in consultation with representatives
of hockey and ringette, have developed
a high quality, group instructional program
focusing on power skating techniques.This
program, called CANPOWERSKATE, is the
only national regulated power skating
program in Canada.All program coaches
have met strict eligibility and certification
requirements.The program has been designed
to provide skaters, both in hockey and
ringette, the opportunity to receive additional
instruction, to learn and develop new
skills and training methods and to be
tested by the Certified School Instructors.
The Skaters who master these skating techniques
will be better able to concentrate on
their stick handling, positioning and
specific game skills during the upcoming
season. |

The
Canpowerskate Program emphasizes fun,
participation, challenge and achievement.
The Program is now more comprehensive
than ever, with additional levels for
skaters already in the program who wish
to continue their power skating development
and with the addition of Pre-Power for
younger skaters just starting out. |

Classes
are usually a rigorous 50 to 60 minutes
and include;a stationary warm up, a slow
moving warm up, a skill review, new skill
instruction and practice, conditioning
and power skating drills and a cool down
period. The amount of time a skater takes
to complete the entire program (six levels)
may depend upon age and ability. The number
of hours spent on ice in Canpowerskate
and in game situations where skills are
reinforced also contributes to their progress.Skaters
will develop better balance, power and
agility. |
